NEW SITE FOR OUT-OF-PRINT BOOKS AND CATALOGS!  My assistant, Alan Workman, whom many of you will recognize from coin shows (also he designed my website) has launched a new site dedicated solely to books and catalogs pertaining to treasure-type items, including coins and militaria.  Any old books or auction catalogs that I had in small quantities went to this site!  Please check it out today:

Daniel Frank Sedwick is a full time dealer specializing in the colonial coinage of Spanish America as well as shipwreck coins and artifacts of all nations. In addition to publishing several catalogs per year, Mr. Sedwick is a regular vendor at major international coin shows, including FUN, CICF, and ANA. Until early 1996, Mr. Sedwick worked in partnership with the late Dr. Frank Sedwick, who began the business in 1981 and became known as a pioneer in the field of Spanish colonial numismatics with his book The Practical Book of Cobs. The fourth (2007) and third (1995) editions of this well-known book were authored and co-authored by Daniel Sedwick, who is also a contributing editor to The Numismatist (the monthly magazine of the American Numismatic Association) and the author of several articles. Mr. Sedwick is a member of the American Numismatic Association and Florida United Numismatists, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree (cum laude) from Duke University.

OFFICE HOURS:  Weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, or leave a message on my voice mail outside those hours, when I am out of the office, or even when I am on the phone already.  You may also FAX me or e-mail me at any time.

PLEASE BE PATIENT AS I FILL YOUR ORDERS, as I handle them all myself. All paid orders are shipped within three business days.  Please call, FAX, or e-mail me by 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time if you require same-day service.

COME SEE ME!  My private office is in beautiful downtown Winter Park, a small, upscale shopping haven just a 30-40 minute car-ride north of Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World, and many other family attractions.  I encourage any visitors to the Orlando area to come see what I have in person.  Just make an appointment with plenty of notice (no less than 24 hours in advance) for any weekday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  I always treasure the opportunity to meet my clients in person!

TERMS OF SALE:

ALL ITEMS ARE GUARANTEED GENUINE and as described.  Forever.

FORM OF PAYMENT:  For immediate shipment, please pay by Money Order or Credit Card (I now take American Express and Discover in addition to Visa and MasterCard).  Bank drafts and personal or business checks are also accepted, but shipment will be delayed by a 10-business-day clearance period from date of deposit (unless you have established credit with me from prior transactions).  All checks must be payable in U.S. dollars drawn on U.S. banks (and please make payable to Daniel Frank Sedwick).

GIFT CERTIFICATES:  Just tell me how much you want to spend and I will send you a certificate for credit that is redeemable within one year for any of my offerings or services (same terms apply as for any other purchase).

RETURNS are accepted within 30 days of shipment on any merchandise not altered or damaged during or after shipment (customer assumes risk and expense of return shipment).  You may opt for a refund (minus shipping cost) or a credit toward future purchase from me.  All sales are final after 30 days, but I am usually willing to buy back items after this time period.

CREDIT-CARD RETURN POLICY:  When you pay by Credit Card, please keep in mind that I am charged as much as 3%, even if you return something for a refund.  Therefore, if you pay by Credit Card, your return will be subject to a 3% re-stocking fee (waived if you opt for a credit instead of a refund).

PRIVACY POLICY:  For security purposes I do not retain customers' credit-card data on my computer, so please provide your full information with each order.  I do not have any special encoding in my emails, but I make a point to delete your sensitive information when I reply.  The safest way to send your information to me is by fax or phone, both of which are private and accessible only by me.

LATE ACCOUNTS:  Payment in full must be postmarked by the due date on the invoice or interest will accrue at a rate of 1½% monthly, calculated from the date of the invoice.  All items remain the property of Daniel Frank Sedwick until paid for in full.

INTEREST-FREE LAYAWAY:  As a courtesy I offer layaways on any purchases of $200 or more for which the balance cannot be paid in full within 15 days of the invoice date.  You may choose from 1-month, 2-month, or 3-month layaways.  Whatever the duration, any layaway requires a non-refundable deposit of ¼ of the total, and if that deposit is not received within ten days of the order, then the layaway is automatically cancelled.  For a 1-month layaway, ¼ is due within ten days and the balance is due in one month.  For a 2-month layaway, ¼ is due within ten days and 3/8 of the total is due every month.  For a 3-month layaway, ¼ is due within ten days and ¼ is due every month.  Each payment must be postmarked by the due date or else a 1½% monthly interest charge on the balance due will be imposed.  If not paid in full within the term of layaway, the purchase will be considered in default and therefore cancelled, the deposit will be retained, and any other payments less interest charges will be refunded.  No credit-card payments are accepted for layaway.

FLORIDA RESIDENTS, REMEMBER:  All sales under $500 are taxable, as are all non-coin sales (books and artifacts).  Therefore, if you are buying $475 worth of coins, for example, you can either pay $28+ in sales tax or buy $25 worth more in coins and pay no tax!  Also, please note that the amount of tax due depends on your county surtax (total range of 6% to 7.5%).

SHIPPING RATES:  Finally I have gone to private third-party shipping insurance, so now all merchandise valued $50 or more will be sent either Signature Confirmation or Certified (up to $1000) or Registered (up to $25,000), unless Express or FedEx are requested. Even though the actual postal cost may be less, I am paying a premium for outside insurance, reflected in my rates below, rounded into even-dollar increments.  ALL SHIPMENTS ARE MADE VIA U.S. POSTAL SERVICE or FedEx (no UPS or DHL).  For sales within the U.S. and its territories, please add the following amounts to your order (foreign orders on a case-by-case basis, so please contact me for rates):

Value Rate Value Rate Options Additional cost
$1-$50 $2 $201-$1000 $8 Priority Mail Add $4
$51-$200 $5 Over $1000 $10 + $1 per $1000 of value Express Mail/FedEx Add $14

For anything other than coins (i.e., books and catalogs and artifacts), please add another $1 to the rates above and figure those items separately from the rest of your order (additional shipping).

HOW TO ORDER FROM MY WEBSITE CATALOG:

Unlike other website sellers, I cannot offer a "shopping cart" system because almost all my merchandise is "one of a kind" and many items sell so fast that I do not have time to update the site with "sold" signs before something gets ordered twice. All you need to do is simply contact me by phone, fax, or email to let me know the item(s) you want, and I will handle everything in the order received (for credit-card orders, please be sure to provide the card # with 3-digit extension on back, expiration date, your name on the card, and the billing address for that card). Again, I am not able to update the catalog every day to show what is sold, so please don't be disappointed if you miss something, rather provide alternate selections just in case.

Please send email to:  dsedwick@cfl.rr.com or info@sedwickcoins.com

To avoid having to re-number everything when I update my catalog, I have instituted a 12-digit inventory system to keep the same number with each item forever (even after it is sold, you will be able to access the photos from the archive).  Please indicate the inventory number with a description of the item and its price when you order (simplest thing is to highlight the whole item in its box, copy, and paste into your email or written order).

TIPS FOR BUYING FROM MY LISTS:  For the best items, look for the terms “bold,” “full,” “choice,” “well-centered,” and “well-detailed.”  Sub-par indicators include “corroded,” “crude,” “weak,” “flat,” “off-center,” “double-struck,” and “holed.”  Other terms relating to toning, shape, and chunkiness tend to be a matter of personal preference.  Data (like assayers and parts of dates) that appear in parentheses are known but not visible.  My descriptions are a balance between completeness and succinctness.  Please read the descriptions carefully and note that if you return an item I will refund (or credit) the purchase price but not the postage.

GRADING:  From best to worst, UNC is Uncirculated, AU is Almost Uncirculated, XF is Extra Fine, VF is Very Fine, F is Fine, VG is Very Good, and G is Good, with Fair and Poor below that.  (“About” or “A” means the coin is just shy of the indicated grade.  “Mint State” refers to lustrous, choice UNC coins.)  I do not always assign numismatic grades to sea-salvage and land-burial coins, which were usually Uncirculated (or close to it) before the effects of corrosion and/or cleaning.  The abbreviations E and R stand for escudos (gold) and reales (silver), and c/m stands for countermark; also adjustment marks is a euphemism for light surface filing done at the mint to reduce planchet weight in tiny increments.

COIN-OF-THE-MONTH PLAN:  This is a great way to start or augment a collection:  Just tell me what you want to collect and your monthly budget, and each month I will send your money’s worth, keep track of what you have, and seek what you need.  Every coin is sent on 10-day approval (after established credit), so there is no obligation to keep what I choose for you.  In effect you will benefit from my proven want-list service with the safety of dollar averaging.  Please call for initial consultation.

SHOW, AUCTION & VACATION SCHEDULE:

Chicago International Coin Fair, April 24-27, at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O'Hare, 5440 North River Rd., Rosemont, IL. While small, this is among the most prestigious of international shows (no US coins!) and several of the important "treasure" dealers will be in attendance. I will bring all coin lots for my upcoming Treasure Auction #3 (May) for viewing at the show.

OTHER SERVICES

AUCTION COMMISSION BIDDING:  Can't make it to the sale you want to bid in?  Afraid that you will overpay for something or (worse) underbid and lose the coin you want?  Never fear—I am at your service for most major coin auctions (in my field) in the U.S. throughout the year.  For a standard 5% fee I will inspect the lots you want to bid on, advise your bidding strategy, and execute your bids safely and anonymously.  Not only will you benefit from my experience and presence, you will also eliminate me from your competition!

AUTHENTICATION AND CERTIFICATION:  My verbal opinion is always free (as should be everyone's), so long as I have no out-of-pocket expense (i.e., please provide return postage if you send your coin to me).  If you require a certificate or any other documentation (e.g., a court affidavit), however, my fee is $50 per item (plus return postage).

APPRAISALS, CATALOGING, AND/OR CONSULTING:  These services I will perform for a fee of $150 per hour or $1500 per day, plus expenses (if away from my office).

PLEASE CHECK OUT MY AUCTIONS ON EBAY!  In an effort to eliminate the extra time and paperwork, I have transferred the administration of my eBay auctions to my assistant Alan Workman.  Many of you have met him at coin shows, as he helps out behind the table as well, but now you will be dealing with him directly for all eBay sales.  I will still answer any questions and provide the material for sale (with my personal guarantee), but all eBay payments shall be made to Alan, and he will handle the listings and shipping on his own.  Look for my auctions under the seller name kingofcobs.  BUY ONLY FROM A REPUTABLE DEALER!  If you would like to bid on my auctions but do not have an eBay account, please click on the following link to get started with a new account (it is easy and free!):

REFERENCES (SOMETIMES) CITED:  A working knowledge of our own  The Practical Book of Cobs, 4th edition (2007), is assumed.  Therefore, any New World cobs in my catalog are not referenced.  Any other coins, however, are referenced to one or more of the following books:

CT = Calicó-Trigo’s Numismática española, 9th edition (1998), possibly for sale on back order (please inquire).

KM = Krause-Mishler’s Standard Catalog of World Coins, various editions, including Spain, Portugal and the New World, for sale on the Books page.

Fr = Friedberg’s Gold Coins of the World, currently available in its 7th edition (2003) online and at many coin shops for $75 or less.

Sp = Spink’s (formerly Seaby's) Coins of England and the United Kingdom, various editions, available at many coin shops for $40 or less.

Sed = Frank Sedwick’s The Gold Coinage of Gran Colombia (1991), for sale on the Books page.

YOUR FEEDBACK IS WANTED!  I am constantly making improvements in efficiency and service while I attempt to reduce expenses. Apart from more and better consignments (which I am always working toward), what other suggestions do you have? Here is a brief list of some of the kind of feedback I am seeking:

(1) Do you prefer my fixed-price website catalog over my auctions, or the other way around, and why?

(2) If you are an auction bidder, do you use only the website or the printed catalog or both? If you do not currently receive the printed catalog, would you bid more if you did?

(3) Do you have any suggestions about the layout of my auction web-pages?

(4) Do my lot descriptions lack any features you would prefer to see?

(5) Is there any type of material you would like to see in my offerings that I have not offered already (like firearms, nautical decorations, jewelry, etc.)?

(6) Right now I hold two auctions a year and about six fixed-price offerings—is this enough, or would you prefer to see more (or fewer) auctions and offerings?

(7) Is there anything I can do to make bidding or ordering easier (apart from a shopping cart system, which I have found impossible to implement with constantly changing inventory)?

Please email me your suggestions to dsedwick@cfl.rr.com or info@sedwickcoins.com

PRIVACY POLICY: During the course of business with me you may be asked for personal information (name, address, phone number, email address, etc.) and credit-card information. Please be assured that I do not share this information with anyone without your approval. Credit-card information specifically is not retained from one transaction from another (so please don't ask me to "just use the same card from last time"), and I do not share or sell email or any other mailing lists. While I do not have a "secure" page for entering in your information, so far I have had no issues with having that information sent to me split into two or more email messages. All of your orders and bids are handled by me, personally, and are not processed automatically except through my own, private database.
