Treasure, World & U.S. Coin Auction #14 October 30, 2013

As our first floor sale (with simultaneous live Internet bidding), our 14th live auction was a new milestone for our growing company. Serious bidders and top numismatists from around the world came to the October 30 auction in three consecutive sessions at the DoubleTree Hotel in the Walt Disney World Resort. The auction room was filled with 50 to 75 people the whole time, most of whom also attended the previous night's welcome dinner and enjoyed continuous socializing and networking. It was wonderful to see, a veritable "coin party" like nothing the field has seen in a long time!

Prices realized (including buyer's fees) totalled over $1.85 million. Many lots sold for record prices, reflecting how our specialized attention and worldwide visibility have brought top collectors old and new to our auctions. We continue to offer a unique combination of high-class material, expert knowledge and first-rate service, and now we invite you to consign and take advantage of the opportunity to be a part of it.

Here are some standouts from our Auction #14:

* Part II of the New England Collection of Brazilian gold coins, its key piece being a 1750 Bahia 3200 Reis that sold for a record price of $49,938.

* Over a dozen round "Royal" cobs that sold for as much as 5 figures each, plus an 8-reales "Heart" that sold for $56,400, the first of several lots that rallied a round of applause from the attendees.

* A fantastic showing in gold cobs with strong prices for high-quality Mexico and Lima pieces, including a 1703 Lima 8 escudos that sold for $47,000.

* A complete sellout in shipwreck ingots, coins and artifacts, featuring a bronze cannon that sold for $49,938, a gold rosary that sold for $71,700, and a gold "dragon whistle" (Captain's badge of office) that sold for $49,938.

* The largest-ever single offering of silver coins from colonial Santo Domingo, which saw an unprecedented level of participation from serious numismatists with multiple decades of experience and knowledge.

Overall we were very pleased with how smoothly our first live floor auction went, and we can't wait to do it again! We welcome the opportunity to sell your collection--please let us know what you have and we will advise you about what is the best venue and timing. Call us now!

Invoices were  emailed to winning bidders starting last week. If you did not get the invoice please let us know.  Most of you already indicated on iCollector how you wish to pay, but if that preference has changed, or if you did not indicate a preference, please let us know ASAP (email us), as we cannot finalize your invoice until we have that information. Also now is the time to specify any special shipping instructions.

Now is not too early to consign to our Treasure and World Coin Auction #15, tentatively scheduled for May 1-2, 2014 (more details coming soon). In fact, the deadline will be here before you know it, so contact us soon. At the moment we are looking for significant collections of cobs and choice Latin American coins.
