Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)
“How can I see the
current standings and how my bids are doing?”
This is the beauty
of iCollector. For every lot you can see EXACTLY where the bid stands and
who is the high bidder, except that the names are all “secret” handles
either created by the bidders or created randomly by iCollector. If you are
not sure what you handle is, please email us and we will let you know. Or if
iCollector is somehow inaccessible for you, please call us and we will read
the standings to you. In order to bid or check the current standings, please
go to

“Can you take
‘either/or’ and budget bids?”
Yes and no. Since
this is a live auction, we cannot go backwards and put you in for lot 10 if
you lose your first choice of lot 20, for example. On a limited basis we can
handle “either/or” bids in sequence (if lot 10 is your first choice and lot
20 is a backup), but better is to check the progress of the lots yourself on
iCollector and bid accordingly. While you cannot take back a bid, at least
you can see when you have been outbid and should go for a later lot instead.
NOTE: There is a $5000 minimum for “total budget” and “either/or” bids, the
latter also subject to a $100/lot minimum bid.
“How
do you handle bid reduction?”
Bids on iCollector
are handled by proxy and reduced automatically. If you give us a maximum of
$500, for example, and the minimum bid is $100 and there are no other bids,
you will win it for $100, simple as that. There is no need to raise and
re-raise when all you have to do is put in your top bid from the beginning.
Also, no one will be able to see your top bid until it is reach.
“What happens if there
is a tie?”
Very simple: The
tie goes to the earlier bidder. This is only logical, for if iCollector is
showing a bid for your maximum already, you canot even enter that bid. But
very often the earlier bidder’s maximum has not been reached yet (see bid
reduction above) and your bid will enter the system but the earlier bidder
will win for the same amount you placed. Of course if you have an unlimited
budget you can just go higher, but most people have a limit. So if you
suspect your bid is not on the high side, get it in the system as early as
possible. Don’t lose the lot on a tie!
“How can I bid by phone
during the live auction?”
First, you have to
reserve a spot in advance, as our calling staff is limited. When you
reserve, you need to indicate which lots you want to bid on. Then, on the
day of the live auction, our representative will call you a few lots before
your lots come up. For each lot, we will tell you what the current asking
bid is and you can say yes or no until the lot is closed. NOTE: This service
is free but available only for bids of $500 or more per lot.
“What do you suggest to
increase my chances of winning?”
In
every auction there are heavily contested lots, but there are also always
many lots that get overlooked and end up selling very inexpensively. The
good thing about iCollector is that you can easily see which lots do not
already have bids, and these are the lots to look for it you want great
deals.
